Art Intent
At Lark Rise Academy, we believe that Art is a vital part of children’s education, with a significant and valuable role in the broad and balanced curriculum and the enrichment opportunities we offer. We have designed a curriculum for art with the intent to provide pupils with a high-quality art education, which develops creativity, sets challenges, engages and inspires children and equips them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art.
We aim to give all children the confidence to express themselves through a range of chosen media. Our curriculum provides children with an opportunity to experience all art forms: drawing, painting, 3D designs and print making and pupils are encouraged to experiment with a range of different materials and techniques to bring their ideas to life. Opportunities to practise art techniques when using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space are embedded across the Art curriculum. Every year, there is a clear progression of skills which build on prior learning. We want children to be reflective learners, thinking about how they can make changes and improve their work.
We want our children to know how Art has contributed to our culture and understanding of our history and the world. They will explore a diverse range of artists, their styles and will then focus on a variety of key artists; the children will have opportunities to be inspired by these key artists and create their own artworks in their particular styles.
As Pablo Picasso once said “Every child is an artist.” This is something that we strongly believe and celebrate at Lark Rise Academy.
